City of Hamburg awarded as Official City of the UN Decade
Hamburg learns sustainability.
The application of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg with the initiative "Hamburg learns sustainability" convinced the jury - the German UNESCO commission.
On 29 November 2006 in Bonn the award was given for the first time to three municipalities in Germany: Heidelberg, Neumarkt/Oberpfalz and Hamburg. Dr. Herlind Gundelach from the Department of Civil Engineering and Environment as head of a Hamburg delegation accepted gladly the price.
Hamburg got the award in respect of its various activities and its annual "Hamburg action plan" (Hamburger Aktionsplan HHAP) that is a strategic plan and sums up all activities in Hamburg from all sectors of education to provide the United Nations Decade Education of Sustainable Development (2005-2014).
TuTech is part of the HHAP with a series of workshops for schools dealing with education for sustainable development in the field of waste management, lifestyle, food and housing - also awarded as official project of the UNESCO-decade.
