Work Package (WP)-meeting

Biocat2006, September 3-7, 2006, Hamburg, Germany

The Biocat conference series was initiated in 2002 with focus on the rapidly evolving field of biocatalysis.

The two preceeding Biocat conferences that were held in Hamburg, Germany, in 2002 and 2004 attracted more than 700 participants from 36 countries. The successful concept of Biocat is based on an interdisciplinary approach integrating the know-how of well acknowledged biologists, biochemists, chemists and engineers from academia and industry.

The 3rd International Congress on Biocatalysis - Biocat2006 - which is again funded by the German Environment Foundation (Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt, DBU) will be held September 3-7, 2006 at the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), Hamburg, Germany.
The conference is organized by the TUHH and TuTech Innovation GmbH.

This meeting will provide an ideal forum for the exchange of information between specialists from both the academic and industrial sectors. The organizers aim at a stimulating and open scientific atmosphere to support the development of new collaborations. Biocatalysts, including enzymes and whole cells, will play a significant role in the sustainable development of future key technologies within the field of industrial biotechnology. Therefore, the congress will focus on the following major topics:

  • Screening, enzyme discovery, evolution and design
  • Structure-function analysis and modelling
  • Efficient systems for recombinant enzyme production
  • Biotransformation with whole cells and isolated enzymes
  • Biocatalysis under extreme/non-conventional conditions
  • Bioprocess engineering and downstream processing
  • Green chemistry and sustainable development of industrial processes

The conference chairman Garo Antranikian and the organizing committee are looking forward to welcome researchers from all over the world to the cosmopolitan city of Hamburg and to share a successful and enjoyable meeting.
