New social economy project in Kortrijk

Werk. Waardig is a new social economy initiative in Kortrijk : 3 advisors will assist local authorities, public centres for social welfare and other organisations who want to engage vulnerable target groups in a creative way.

South-West Flanders is a dynamic region with a lot of entrepreneurs, but with 9.000 unemployed. 60 % is low skilled and about 20 % is unemployed for two years already. Social economy initiatives can be a link with new needs in society : home care, shopping assistance, ironing, organisation of meetings and transport. The set up of such activities can be very complex with a lot of statutes, funds, administration, regulations and a lack of experience. Companies can find support at incubator centres like Kanaal 127, but local authorities and other public organisations still struggle to find their way. For this target group, a new regional partnership has been formed with the help of ESF-funds. 3 people will assist them with advice and support for three years. That's how we hope to create jobs for 100 long term unemployed.
