220 extra jobs in social economy in Kortrijk

The Flemish minister of Social Economy recognises the company Makkie as a social economy project. This means 118 fulltime employees more.

Makkie started two years ago as one of the first companies working with service cheques in Flanders. It offers help in households like cleaning, ironing and preparing meals. Clients pay per hour with a service cheque of 6.70 euro. This payment system avoids unregistered employment and creates extra jobs for a more vulnerable target group. In the meantime, Makkie has already 2500 clients in East- and West-Flanders and has its main office in Kanaal 127, one of the Belgian partners in VISP.

Oost-West, a similar initiative was also recognised and gets 50 full-time employees. These immigrants, long term unemployed and low-skilled people get an intensive training and guidance on the work floor.

There are also plans for a transport service for disabled people and a nursery project with service cheques.
