The Mevlani VISP-project

Mevlani Drammen

The project has developed out of the knowledge we have on the situationfor differnt groups of minority youth. We have material based oninterviews with school children of 14 and 16 years over several years. This material also contains information on attitudes towards "theother" national groups that lives in Drammen. Together with othersocial statistics and knowledge gained in youth work this shows thatthere is a great need to strenghten the position for the minority youth - and especially some of them. The turkish group is by far the biggestin Drammen - ca 3000, and is the main point of interest in this project.
The projects plan is to develope techniques based on story-telling intheatre in order to strenghten the identity as youth growing up indifferent cultures. Story-telling is a technique based on getting thepax to work with they're own stories in a dramaturgical setting.
The project will also put emphasis on showing and promoting these stories also for an wider audience.
