Kortrijk plays a leading role in local service economy in Flanders. This is part of social economy, in which new services on the scale of a neighbourhood, are set up in order to improve the quality of life of the users by focussing on collective and personal needs.

De Mosselbank" is a social housing block in Kortrijk, with 99 flats spread over 9 entities (built in 1997). In the summer of 2001 there were some complaints about damaged goods.

The Flemisch Community published in 2003 a white book on urban policy,The century of the city which inspires also cities as Kortrijk in their vision about the development of Kortrijk. It is the result of two years of work, which started with background analyses and discussions between academics, experts and other stakeholders.
Exhibition about the Vetex

After a reunion of the people living in the neighbourhood of Vetex, Kortrijk wants to keep the neighbours involved in the planning and development of the Vetex Poortgebouw. Therefore, one can read about the work in progress in the newspaper of the OCMW.
Makkie starts a new service

Makkie is a social economy initiative at Kanaal 127 in Kortrijk. It now starts a transport service of the less mobile and persons of age.
Mölndal visited Kortrijk

Kortrijk has got the honour to welcome a delegation of 18 visitors from the city of Mölndal. From Tuesday 11th until Friday 14th of October 2005, the 18 social and cultural workers, teachers and politicians had the opportunity to follow different presentations about city planning, culture, social economy, welfare, unemployment and cultural integration and Life Long Learning.
