Week of Designers, Kortrijk 05

At the end of June is the first edition of the Week of Design in Kortrijk : 15 exhibitions of technical creative artists in fields like architecture, fashion, multimedia, textile design, photography, film, furniture, flowers, jewellery and graphic design. This is an initiative of  the City of Kortrijk in collaboration with about hundred companies and artists and all technical-creative training institutes.

Study about social economy

Last year, REBAK, the regional socio-economical platform presented the strategic plan for the economy of the region. In this plan, Kanaal 127, an incubator in social economy, has to create sustainable employment for vulnerable groups in the labour market by setting up new businesses, integrate risk groups in the regular economy and social service economy.

Strategy for the economy in South-West-Flanders

Based on a study on the strengths and weaknesses of the economy of our region, REBAK, a local platform for regional policy on the sustainable development of the region, presented in the beginning of this year a strategy for the South-West-Flemish economy. In total it consists of 18 priorities in order to transform our region in a networking, permanent learning, creative and innovative region that pushes back frontiers and that has an attractive climate for living and working.

Kortrijk most entreprising city of Flanders

Kortrijk has been awarded as most enterprising municipality of Flanders in 2004 out of 30 candidates by the Union of Self-employed Enterpreneurs thanks to the plans to establish a business centre in the hart of the city in order to revitalise the inner centre. Kortrijk struggles with a drain of entrepreneurs, which causes vacancies and loss of  the population.
