How to counter brain drain in Kortrijk ?
According to a study of the Province West-Flanders, about 770 youngsters between 20 and 34 years leave Kortrijk every year. University and high schools look for ways to counter this brain drain. The University KULAK offers research possibilities in specific sectors like exact and biomedical sciences and human sciences. This research is done on global level. Due to the proximity of the French border they also work on specific cross-border topics like the project Lingu@atic, a project which creates an electronic platform for individual language learning. But the magic formula of the KULAK is to offer unique training packages like Education management and policy. This is also the conviction of the high schools in Kortrijk : they focus on unique training in Society Safety, Event Management, Environmental studies, Industrial design and Architectural assistance. Further measures taken by high schools are distant learning, expertise and knowledge centres and close contact with the companies and non - profit sector.
