Some members of the steering group New Library

On the 9th of March 2004, a work group New Library with external experts and key players of the city administration has got the assignment to investigate a desirable concept for the New Library in Kortrijk. This resulted in 2005 in two vision texts about the funtion of the library and decisions on the concept of the library, the decentralised structure and work, the role as provider of educational services, automation, competence management, location and building program.

Now the work group New Library faces a new challenge : how combining the infrastructure and functions of life long learning and library ? The library would come at the Conservatoriumplein, where the music centre is and also actors in the education sector would be interested to join. The additional study about the combination of functions should facilitate the others studies about the masterplan of the site.

The study will focus on best practices from Belgium and foreign countries where library and life long learning functions are combined and the application of some topics to the context in Kortrijk. An inventory of the needs of the actors in Kortrijk has been made during a workshop on the 13th of March. Now they are making an inventory of the best practices elsewhere.

The results will be presented half May.
