Makkie hands out service cheques in Kortrijk
Makkie is a small social economy initiative within Kanaal 127 that has been started up with subventions from the Flemish Government. With a quick start in the head office in Kortrijk, and later in Roeselare, Makkie Comfort services now opened a new office in the Business Centre of Brugge. Makkie gives full contracts to people who go cleaning, prepare dishes, do the ironing or do some shopping for mostly elderly people, who cant do it themselves anymore. In two years time, 211 cleaning ladies in Kortrijk got a job for 1.587 clients. In Roeselare 125 people were sent to 652 clients. The success factor seems to be that the people who are in service have been selected very well on different skills like accuracy, discretion, experience and energy . They get a wage of 10, 2725 Euro per hour. The cheque is worth appromately 20 Euro. In Kortrijk 2 new services have been started up: an iron atelier and a transport service for the less mobile. If the other cities might have a strong demand, such things will be organized in Roeselare and Brugge too.
