Some members of the workgroup

On the 7 th of June, the workgroup ' Library of the 21st Century ', one of the local VISP-projects in Kortrijk, has presented the first results of its study, to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen. The work group has investigates future functions of the library, what kind of infrastructure is needed and the possible location for a new building.
The actual library has 300.000 books and 18.000 regular visitors and is far too small. The work group suggested a new building of 5000 m2 on the Conservatoriumplein, a square near the train station and the music centre.
Nowadays all the branches of the library will be restyled and next year the main department will become automised with a robot that scanns books and exchanges money, so the personnel will have more time for the delivery of books at home, for personal advice and internet guidance. This initiative is the result of a study visit to the library of Rotterdam in February this year.
