Kortrijk city of design

Kortrijk aims at becoming an important European city of design. Various initiatives have been taken so far : the appointment of two design masters as advisors to the city, the presence of the association Interieur that organises the design fair every two years and various education programms at local highschools, such as industrial design (240 students).

Recently, Kortrijk has got the the project fund of 150.000 euro to elaborate Design Region Kortrijk in order to sensibilise the entrepreneurs about design, to reinforce the education about design and to profile the region as an innovative region.

A first result is the creation of a new study programm for 2006-2007 at the PIH, a local high school, called Embedded System Design : the integration of microprocessors, intelligent logic and software in products and applications.

Another initiative has been taken by Mayor De Clerck to establish a European network of various design cities.

These efforts makes Kortrijk a very strong candidate to get a fund of 7 million euro from the Flemish government to establish an excellence pool for design in Kortrijk ! The decision will be made at the end of June.
