Study about social economy

Last year, REBAK, the regional socio-economical platform presented the strategic plan for the economy of the region. In this plan, Kanaal 127, an incubator in social economy, has to create sustainable employment for vulnerable groups in the labour market by setting up new businesses, integrate risk groups in the regular economy and social service economy. There are also plans to develop a knowledge pool for social economy in te region.

In February the City of Kortrijk has accepted a proposal for a study about the social economy in Kortrijk by HIVA, a research institute of the Katholic University of Leuven.

The study will consist of an analysis that focusses on the concept of social economy, so that the consequences of policy priorities and responsabilities are clearer. Secondly, a social map and a global overview of all initiatieves in the region of Kortrijk will be made in order to look for opportunities according to the existing policy for the development of social economy. The social map will be the result of a study of available documents and conversations with various actors in the field. As a final result of this study, the role of the local authority in the development of the social economy in the region of Kortrijk should be cleared out.

In a second phase, concrete proposals for the structural elaboration of the social economy will be made in collaboration with the local partners, Kanaal 127 and Mentor ( also local partners of the City of Kortrijk in the VISP project )
