Sustainable Regional Development:
From Rhetoric to Practice 26-27 March 2007, Nordregio, Stockholm, Sweden
Nordregio will in co-operation with the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and the EIA-Centre, Department of Urban and Rural Development, University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Uppsala host a two dey seminar focusing on
- The mechanisms that promote or hinder change in implementing sustainable development in the regional development context
- Experiences from the use of different methods and tools in promoting sustainability
- Examples of practical approaches and work with sustainable development in selected Nordic regions
- Sustainable development and innovation
- Other challenges for practice and research in the field of sustainable regional development.
The aim of the seminar is to provide an arena for discussion and communication in relation to the implementation of the political goals of sustainable development, finding inspiration in current research endeavours and practical development achievements.
Keynote presentations will focus on the EU Commission’s current work with sustainable development at regional level and socio-cultural processes that promote and hinder organisational change, with Professor Dian Marie Hosking, Utrecht School of Governance from the Netherlands as one of the key note speakers. Other presentations will discuss how regions in the Nordic countries have integrated sustainable development in regional development work, both within organisations and programmes. Sustainability aspects of national regional development policies will also be presented and discussed.
Interactive workshops will treat selected aspects of current issues and experiences from the field.

Britt-Marie Torstensson, Chairwoman of NRC - The Swedish National federation of ResourceCentres for Woman and also of WINNET Europe - The European Association of Women ResourceCentres will present 'The Case of NRC and the Role of WRCs as key drivers of regional development in Europe'.
