The future of the gate building
The Gate building of the Vetex factory used to be a textile dispatching factory. It was built during the Interbellum and is one of Kortrijks most important industrial heritages. The front wall is Art Deco. It used to be seen as the real face of the area as a lot of people who worked there also lived and still live in the neighbourhood. As the building is very confident for the citizens, already a lot of events have been organized there. It is the purpose to continue this because the projects can give an adequate answer to the demands for integration in the Venning -Veemarkt area.
The Gate building will be a polyvalent meeting point at the very level of the neighbourhood. As well social as sportive activities will take place there. Youth, subcultures, theatre, folkloristic feasts and cultural happenings will be organized in it. There will be 5 places for meetings for ca. 20 persons. Another polyvalent space includes a cafeteria, a kitchen, a meeting place for 30 persons. There will be some space for stocking sports materials, a mobile kitchen, a mobile bar and a number of chairs. The incoming zone in the hall is adapted to the handicapped people. There is a small bureau for a director. Every sanitary means is available for the handicapped. There is a technical room, some vertical circulation (a lift) and some extra stocking places.
