Development of yachting ports along the Drammen fjord and river

The 6th of September was closing day for a modest but successful regional development project. In this project he Drammen region, the municipalities of Asker and Vestby and three county councils co-operated for developing yachting ports and landing stages along the Drammen fjord and river and neighbouring parts of the Oslo fjord.

This project is part of the Drammen branch of VISP and as such one of the measures for vitalising Drammen and its surrounding municipalities.

Fifteen existing ports and areas for potential ports and landing stages participated. Twelve of them lie in the Drammen region. The port of Son in the Oslo fjord, being the largest one and having the longest experience of them all, was the pilot.

The aim of the project was to arrange for developing the existing ports and for establishing ports and landing stages. And they have been successful at that: on all locations local working groups are busy planning and carrying through agreed-upon plans. Public authorities, private companies and other shareholders are involved. The ultimate goal is to offer a series of landing places for yachts and small tourist boats along the banks of the Drammen fjord and as far up the Drammen River as natural conditions allow, thus making local cultural pearls easier accessible and giving additional possibilities for development to the local trade and commerce.

The project management recommends there to be a new project taking the contribution a bit further, especially through establishing a better linkage between the existence of landing places and development of tourism and commerce.

You may find the project report on the website of Byen Vår Drammen (www.bvd.no). Sadly the report it self is written in Norwegian, but maps pictures and sketches might give you a pretty good impression of what the project was about.
